In 1934, brothers Al and Hyman Wolf, started out repairing and reconditioning household kitchen ranges. They earned a reputation for being able to modify appliances to customer specifications which led to local Los Angeles restaurants ordering ranges for their own kitchens. Not ones to let an opportunity pass them by, the Wolf brothers set up a commercial enterprise manufacturing professional-grade ranges for the restaurant industry.

By 1938, the company was manufacturing a full line of of restaurant and commercial appliances such as griddles, fryers, ovens, and seamless stainless sealed-burner professional ranges which became the basis for the high end residential Wolf Ranges. The company quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest manufacturers of commercial equipment, just as the founders had years earlier.

 

In the 1970's, as demand for high-performance residential cooking equipment grew, Wolf responded by creating a separate line of products based on their commercial equipment, offering the same efficiency, durability, and performance. These scaled-down models gave residential customers the same cutting-edge cooking and baking features of their commercial products with an elegant design.

In 2000, Sub-Zero purchased the residential division of the Wolf Range Company, adding professional quality cooking equipment to their kitchen portfolio. Sub-Zero saw in Wolf the same philosophy of excellence in engineering, design, and customer service that had made Sub-Zero an industry leader, creating the ideal companion to their line of products.
