U-line Corporation was founded in 1962, by Henry Uihlein, Sr., as an outgrowth of of Ben-Hur Freezers. Henry developed and patented the first residential undercounted ice maker, and began selling it door-to-door. The success of his product with affluent home owners helped fund further research and development into other refrigeration products.

In 1971, U-Line developed the first undercounter combo icemaker and refrigerator which maintained two separate temperature zones in a single cabinet, using a single compressor, as well as a portable icemaker with a water tank that could be wheeled around the home. In 1985, U-Line was the first US appliance manufacturer to produce an undercounter wine refrigerator for wine storage, which had three different temperature zones for proper storage of different varieties of wine, and was the first US manufacturer to develop frost-free freezer technology in an undercounter unit in 1991.

Since U-Line's founding in 1962, all of their products have been, and continue to be designed, engineered and assembled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. U-Line continues to develop innovative refrigeration products, such as manufacturing the highest ice production undercounter unit, and continues to focus on producing the best premium modular ice making, refrigeration, and wine preservation equipment in the industry. U-Line is currently part of the Middleby Corporation family of companies.
