Magic Chef Appliance Repair

In the 1850's a German immigrant, John Ringen, started a tinshop in St. Louis, Missouri. By 1870, his tinshop having become a success, John partnered with George August Kahle, who himself immigrated to the US in 1867, to manufacture and sell early washing machines, housewares, and cooking stoves they called "quick meals". In 1881, George convinced his brothers-in-law, Charles and Louis Stockstrom, to partner with himself and John to establish a manufacturing facility for stoves. They established two Corporations, the Quick Meal Stove Company to manufacture the stoves, and the Ringen Stove Company, handling sales and distribution of all of the stoves manufactured by Quick Meal.

During the 1880's and 1890's, the unprecedented growth of these two companies saw them merge with eight other stove companies in St. Louis, Chicago and Cleveland. The new conglomerate, founded by Charles Stockstrom in 1901, was called the American Stove Company. The American Stove Company, building upon their success, introduced the first oven temperature control device in 1914, and introduced the Magic Chef brand name in 1929. The Magic Chef brand became a dominant name in the oven and stove industry, and in 1951, the American Stove Company officially changed their name to Magic Chef, Inc.

Hoping to build on their success with stoves and ovens, MagicChef expanded into other household appliances but failed to achieve any reasonable success, and in 1957, merged with Food Giant Markets in California, which in turn was bought out by Dixie Products just one year later. By 1986, Magic Chef, Inc. became the 249th largest industrial company in the US, and was bought by Maytag.

Magic Chef, Inc. is part of MCA Corporation, having been purchased from Whirlpool in 2010. Today, Magic Chef continues to build on their historic principles of ease of use, and dependability, while reenforcing and maintaining the connection the brand has with their customers.
