The Jenn-Air Products Company was founded by Louis J. Jenn in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1947, later becoming simply Jenn-Air. Jenn-Air began manufacturing and marketing industrial fans for use in a variety of commercial and industrial applications. Louis Jenn, ever the believer that the status quo needs to be challenged, leveraged his knowledge of fans and air movement, and integrated a fan into a cooking range, creating the first self-ventilating downdraft range in 1965, eliminating the needs for overhead ventilation hoods.

By eliminating the need for an overhead hood, Louis Jenn ushered in a new era in kitchen design, and laid the foundation for the company's philosophy of unconventional design with utility. The company quickly expanded its lineup to include many other kitchen appliances.

In 1982, Jenn-Air was purchased by Maytag Corporation, which in turn was purchased by Whirlpool Corporation in 2006. Today, the company continuing as a distinct brand, creates bespoke high-end appliances with an emphasis on design, high-end materials and industry-first exclusive features, and is the pinnacle for the Whirlpool family of brands in the United States and elsewhere around the world.
