What ultimately became Dacor, started life as a small appliance retail store in 1948, founded by brothers Stanley and Anthony Joseph in Northern California. They made their name selling the first electric refrigerators and ventilation hoods under the Stanthony Ventomatic name, ultimately incorporating in 1950.

Driven to innovate, Stanley Joseph received numerous patents for his inventions including a first of its kind small electric barbecue, designed to be built into a kitchen counter, or for countertop use. In 1963, Stanley Joseph received an additional patent for a combination ventilation hood and warming oven.

Dacor was incorporated as Distinctive Appliance Corporation in 1965, as an offshoot of Stanthony Corporation. Stanley Joseph's sons, Michael and Anthony Joseph, having returned from the Vietnam war and graduated from Stanford, joined the company in 1971 and would ultimately become CEO and President, respectively.

Innovation is part of the DNA of Dacor Appliance Corporation, having pioneered several industry firsts, including a self-cleaning built-in wall oven, and a range with sealed burners for ease of cleaning. In 2016, Dacor was purchased by Samsung Electronics America, but continues to maintain its US-based manufacturing and corporate identity as an industry leader in design and technology.
